Post-Pandemic Demand for Remote Collaboration

Post-Pandemic Demand for Remote Collaboration and the Impact on the AV Industry

The demand for remote collaboration tools has surged in the wake of a post-pandemic world, impacting how audiovisual (AV) equipment is purchased online. As hybrid work environments become the norm, consumers are increasingly seeking high-quality AV tools that enhance their remote collaboration experiences. This shift has influenced not only what products are being bought but also how manufacturers and retailers position them in the market.

Demand for High-Quality AV Equipment

Before the pandemic, most people worked in office environments where professional AV setups were commonplace. However, with the rise of remote and hybrid work models, many have had to recreate similar setups at home. One major factor driving this trend is the shift in professional standards. Online meetings are now just as critical as in-person ones.

Companies that specialize in AV equipment have adapted by offering solutions designed for hybrid work, virtual events, and flexible collaboration setups. Industry events like the Rocky Mountain AV Expo, allows professionals to engage with emerging trends such as remote collaboration tools, live streaming gear, and hybrid event solutions.

Remote Work and Trends

Rutgers University outlines in their Expectation for Remote Work that, “All equipment and services necessary for the employee to meet their job duties must be present and in good working order in their alternate work location. This might include, but is not limited to, a properly protected or secured computer with standard productivity software and video capability, a headset, Internet access with necessary bandwidth, VPN and meeting software (i.e., Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams, etc.), and/or any other job or department specific tools.”

Video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet have had a profound impact on AV shopping trends. The live streaming market has exploded, especially in industries like education, entertainment, and corporate communication. “In 2023, about 12.7% of employees are fully remote, with 30% participating in some hybrid model. In ten years, some experts predict that those numbers will rise, to 30% and 60-65% respectively,” writes Katherine Haan, a contributor for Forbes Advisor

Post-Pandemic Demand

The pandemic changed the way people and businesses interact with AV technology. Consumers now expect high-quality, easy-to-use equipment that supports seamless communication, whether they are working from home or hosting virtual events. Post-pandemic norms have further solidified the need for flexible, portable, and cloud-connected AV solutions; poor-quality audio or video is no longer acceptable.

Remote workers and businesses alike have been investing in professional-grade audiovisual equipment. AV technology providers are focusing on user-centric designs that enhance virtual meetings through features like AI noise reduction and easy-to-use platforms. For instance, AVI-SPL partners with major technology companies such as Crestron and Microsoft to create integrated AV systems tailored for the remote and hybrid work era. Companies like Biamp, focus on providing networked audio and video solutions, while Logitech is more focused on providing plug-and-play solutions. Trade shows like the Rocky Mountain AV Expo continue to influence these trends by showcasing the latest innovations. These developments ensure that remote collaboration tools will remain a key focus in the AV market for years to come.
